Manifest Equality

Art

I often think how cool it would be if every vacant retail spot in the city was turned into a temporary art space instead of another Halloween Headquarter. So some awesome Los Angeles-based fairy must've heard my wish, gathered hundreds of artists and created Manifest Equality.

Taking place at what used to be a Big Lots space right around the corner from where we used to live, Manifest Equality displayed the works of visual artists with the theme of "full and equal rights for all Americans with no exceptions."

It was great to see a familiar space, otherwise filled with discounted knick knacks, now occupied with 400+ artwork by a roster of familiar names. It was even greater to see the amount of work produced based around a simple theme. I'm curious to learn how many visitors accepted the message. During the days it was open, the show brought out a ton of visitors but apparently we picked a cloudy day and a quiet hour to check it out.

Oh we took pics of some of our favorites!

Sita Sings the Blues is a modern, musical interpretation of the Indian epic, Ramayana, set to the 1920's jazz music of Annette Hanshaw.
