Drawing Into The Sun

Illustration, Art

After 20 years of living in the East Coast, illustrator Matt Sundstrom, decided to move back to the West Coast. He drove 3,700 miles from New Hampshire to Portland, Oregon in 8 days and documented his scenic trip in drawings. You can see all of his drawings on DriveIntoTheSun.com. Terrific, aren't they?

We They, We They

Art

We went to San Francisco earlier this month and one of the things I wanted to do was to check out Clare Rojas' exhibit at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art.

The entire MOCFA gallery is filled with colorful, floor-to-ceiling wall installation, prints and paintings of characters and quilt-like patterns that are unique to the Beautiful Losers artist. It was a Tuesday afternoon when we arrived and the gallery was empty. Besides us, there was a young girl and her mom giggling at the video projected on the wall.

United Colors of World Cup

Design, Illustration, Art, Event

Even though I'm not really following the World Cup, I really enjoy finding the work that people put together inspired by it.

Erik Marinovich designed this type inspired by both the World Cup and Flag Day. I found it over at Friends of Type.

Go on Flickr and you'll find a sea of photos, illustrations and doodles centered around the World Cup. This particular one is a favorite of mine by Loops!

Hyperakt, a NYC-based design firm, designed an awesome radial bracket poster that will be updated with all official final results. With $25 you can help fund them to get it printed and reserve one for yourself. Donate at Kickstarter.com

What's your favorite part of the World Cup? Is it the vuvuzela?

PALATE

Food, Art, Event

Last week I took my car to the shop for a regular service. While waiting for my car, I walked over to the Scion Art Space to check out Palate, an art exhibit that brings food into the art gallery. From vintage candies, Los Angeles based burgers to pink wedding cakes (with fangs!), it's the only art exhibition to make my mouth water.

My favorite from the show was Martha Rich's wall of dessert mini paintings. They're so colorful, cheerful and irreverent!

Hmm Clare Crespo's salad is so fresh, it "knits" no dressing.
