Whatcha mean we got a zine?

Book, Illustration

Sometimes you send a little thing in the mail and don't think about it ever again. Until one day an email came into your inbox barring a good news about that very thing. That thing is our little zine of drawings! Some of you might've seen it at our booth. Last year, when we saw an open call for a zine art show, we sent over ours. We just found out that our zine got accepted to the show and it's currently on display til the end of the month at "Thanks For Sharing" at the D21 Kunstraum in Leipzig, Germany. I wish we could go and check it out ourselves but I guess the pics on Flickr will have to do.

Check out the flyer that the hosts made for the show:

So, now who wants to trade zine? If you've got a zine, email us hello (at) milkandeggsco.com and we can start zine trading!

PS: The title of this post is a reference to a great zine-making book by Funchicken and tons of other zine makers called "Whatcha Mean What's a Zine?" . Check it out, if you haven't already.

Book Sculpture

Book, Art

These "book sculptures" by artist Jacqueline Rush Lee remind me of that old soiled magazine or newpaper you've seen after a rain storm (probably lodged in a curb side storm drain). Although, these are without doubt much more appealing to the eyes, and some are down right pretty.

My favorite, Slice Trio.

The Macrophenomenal Pro Basketball Almanac

Design, Book, Illustration

I bought The Macrophenomenal Pro Basketball Almanac a couple of years ago for my brother's birthday. The book was put together by NBA writers and artists. They present players' in-depth styles & statistics in visuals unlike your typical sports channel graphics, combined with witty commentary that die-hard NBA fans shouldn't miss. I "borrowed" the book recently from my brother because I needed a fun reference point for information graphics and this book has tons of it. Check out some of the pages:

Papercraft

Design, Book, Art

Papercraft is one of the few books I received as a Christmas gift last year. (Typing "last year" when really it was only a few weeks ago feels weird. Anyhow.) One of the things I'm love with is paper and this 256-page book is a great collection of mind-blowing work created with paper. It features tons of designers and artists like Julien Vallée, Sarah Illenberger, Shin Tanaka, and my favorite paper artist, Peter Callesen. There's a better preview of the book over at Gestalten, but here are some shots I took of the pages.

I Swear to Good You Are God at This

Design, Book, Art

So the time for gift giving has passed, but it's never too late to give someone a gift of inspiration. Plus, the new year is the right time to hit that "start" button and finally pen down those ideas you've always wanted to do. Our friend, Dave Brown and his San Diego-based creative hub, Holiday Matinee just put together a 72-page book called I Swear to Good You Are God at This.

Aligned with Dave Brown's mantra "Love Your Work. Work Your Love.", the book features some of the most talented artists and designers who simply turn what they love into brilliant and fun projects. It's the perfect gift for someone (or yourself!) who needed that creative push to get started. You can preview and buy the book, here.
