Spaghetti Western

Poster, Illustration, Movie

Dave's mom is passionate about Western movies. She's got endless collection in her apartment AND in the storage. She always talks about her favorite leading man, Gene Autry every time we see her. A long time member, she'd spend hours at the Autry National Center here in Los Angeles. Although, she'd tell us that Spaghetti Western is different than the regular Western film, I think she'll appreciate this Spaghetti Western Inventory poster designed by Max Dalton:

Bookmarked as Christmas gift idea for her this year.

The Small Stakes

Design, Music, Poster

We've been admiring The Small Stakes work for a while now. We always see him (Jason Munn) at shows but were never able to decide on a poster to take home because they're all really, really good. At the recent Renegade Craft Fair in SF, though, we bought The Small Stakes - Music Posters book, which includes over 150 posters he designed for many bands.

You've probably seen his work, but if you haven't, you should really check out The Small Stakes website.

BUST Craftacular Los Angeles

Poster, Art, Event

Last Saturday, Dave and I headed out the Echo & Echoplex for BUST magazine's Holiday Craftacular. Despite the rain, the event was quite bustling with shoppers. The Echoplex was dim as it normally would be for a music show with the exception of a few vendors' lamps and the stage lights. Even so, I managed to find some goods and made notes of things I'd like to get.

When we got there, I realized that we had left our memory card for the camera at home. Grrr. So please excuse these dark and grainy photos we took using Dave's phone.

We met Pretty Little Thieves the first time at the Patchwork Craft Show in Long Beach a few weeks ago. I really like Nancy's quirky drawings of girls. So, it was nice to chat with her for a bit at BUST. Here is a signage she posted on a pillar close to her table. I bought a version of it printed on a black paper in silver ink.

DesignerCon 2009

Design, Toys, Poster, Book, Illustration, Art, Event

On Saturday, we headed out to DesignerCon in Pasadena. The event started in 2006 as Vinyl Toy Network. It was mainly a showcase of the vinyl toy industry but has since turned into a mishmash of design and art. They also had live drawings/paintings which we completely missed despite the loud, KROQ announcement blaring out the speakers. I think we're too occupied with checking out all of the different vendors and their goods, signing up on email list and picking up everyone's fliers.

Bored, Inc.'s flier is my favorite.

Europa by Car

Poster, Illustration, Art

The surreal and muted colored poster, entitled Europa by Car, came in the mail yesterday and I couldn't be more excited. It's a 17x22" giclee print by UK-based artist Matt Williams that I purchased from Society6.com. I learned about his illustration work through Twitter. Also known as Uberkraaft, he is one of the most creative and productive people that we follow.
